This article covers the first important decisions you need to make before building a website, including the website name, its organization, and the information visitors need to find.
The goal is to make searching simple and deliver useful information without confusion.
Choosing a domain
A domain is the address a visitor enters in a browser to find the website. Before choosing one, check whether the preferred address is available through a domain registrar.
A good domain is easy to remember. Keep it short, relevant, and closely connected to the business. Different endings may be available, such as .ge, .com.ge, or a category-specific option like .edu.ge for an educational institution. If one version is taken, another suitable ending may still be available.
Planning the homepage and navigation
Once the domain is selected, begin with the homepage. It introduces the business and helps visitors move to the rest of the site through navigation.
Navigation is usually placed near the top of the page. It is the menu that lets visitors move from one section to another. Look at websites you use regularly and notice how their information is organized.
Organizing the content
Decide what information the customer needs and group it strategically. Familiar pages such as About and Contact are often a practical starting point.
A contact page may include the address, telephone number, email, and a map. An About page can explain the history of the business and use photographs from its archive.
Think from the visitor's point of view. Why are they opening the site? Which information do they need? A bakery visitor may simply need opening hours, while another visitor may want to place an online order.
What visitors should find
The navigation should remain available across the site so the visitor always knows where to go. Pages can contain headings, text, images, video, and links to related internal or external resources.
Depending on the goal, the site may also need frequently asked questions, a map, a shopping cart, a booking system, or another focused function.
Summary
A website creates a direct communication channel with customers. A memorable domain, strategic organization, user-focused design, and clear navigation help people find what they came for.
